BENELUX - Webinar "How can regional cooperation boost climate goals", 26.10.2020, 10:30-12:00

The effects of climate change and extreme weather conditions do not stop at the border. Due to the fact that they are economically and geographically interlinked, Benelux countries are confronted with the same climate challenges. Regional cooperation is absolutely essential to finding solutions, exploiting scale and legal frameworks to go forward. Can Benelux take the lead in regional climate cooperation and what are the first steps to take?

Covid-19 sets additional challenges to climate ambitions. A relaunch of the economy hand-in-hand with a Green Recovery is vital.  How do we keep climate goals on the agenda and invest in a climate-oriented economic relaunch?

The European Commission wants to reduce EU greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, MEPs are calling for a reduction of 60% and China says it will achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. How can coalition-building create solutions to accelerate the transition in the Benelux, Europe and the world?

Moderator Katrina Sichel will discuss these issues and more with a panel of key speakers :

  • Mr Marc Vanheukelen  (EU Ambassador at large for Climate Diplomacy),
  • Mr Marcel Beukeboom (Climate Envoy of the Netherlands),
  • Mr Zhen Shang                (Counselor at China’s Mission to the EU)
  • Mr Toon Lambrecht       (Belgian spokesperson for Youth for Climate)

A live Q&A session is part of the webinar, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to make your voice heard.
